    AKSARA INCUNG SEBAGAI IDENTITAS BATIK KERINCI

    The Incung script is a writing system used by the Kerinci comminity. The Script of Incung as a identity in Kerinci Batik aims to identify the identity contained in the Incung Script as motif of Kerinci batik. This study use as a qualitative method with descriptive data that siscuss the data in accordance with the facts encountered in the field with aesthetic studies. Data collection done through literature study, observation, interviews and matrix of data collection. Kerinci batik have two types of batik namely, Kerinci decorative batik and Incung batik with stamp techniques. The color used in the product Kerinci batik is a type of naptol and indigosol. In addition, batik cloth Kerinci is dark inaddition, batik cloth Kerinci is bright in color. The main motif of batik Kerinci is an Incung script combined with Kerinci decorative motifs flora, fauna and heirlooms which are the identity of Kerinci.Keywords: Incung Script; Kerinci; Batik; Aesthetics; IdentityAbstrakAksara Incung merupakan sistem penulisan yang digunakan oleh masyarakat Kerinci. Aksara Incung sebagai identitas batik Kerinci bertujuan untuk mengidentifikasi identitas batik Kerinci. Penelitian ini menggunakan metode kualitatif dengan data deskriptif yang membahas tentang data sesuai fakta yang ditemui di lapangan, dengan kajian estetika. Pengumpulan data dilakukan melalui studi pustaka, observasi, wawancara dan matrik pengumpulan data. Batik kerinci memiliki dua jenis batik yaitu, batik ragam hias Kerinci dan batik Incung dengan teknik batik tulis dan cap. Motif utama batik Kerinci adalah aksara Incung dikombinasi dengan ragam hias Kerinci, motif flora, fauna dan benda pusaka yang merupakan identitas Kerinci.Kata Kunci: Aksara Incung; Batik; Kerinci; Estetika; Identitas

    Lean production system definition from the perspective of Malaysian industry

    “Muda” is a term in the Toyota Production System (TPS), which refers to waste that occurs in the manufacturing process. Waste is removed from the production process by eliminating activity that does not add value to the customer through a continuous improvement activities. This is the basis concept for TPS in order to produce products that meet customers’s demand and requirements which then indirectly reduce the cost of production. Lean production concept has been implemented in various types of organizations. However, a low success rate for the implementation of lean production has become the attention of practitioners and researchers in the industry. Among the issues that contribute to this situation are confusion about the definition of lean and lack of knowledge on how to implement lean, which caused misunderstanding. In addition, there are no strategic planning and lack of support from the top management. Thus, the objective of this study is to develop a definition of lean from Malaysian context. The study is expected to help organizations implementing lean concepts with success and thus increasing the organizational competitiveness

    Kajian ini bertujuan membangun Teknik Kedudukan Dinamik Berasaskan Pembaikan Halaju (VcCPBD) bagi mempertingkat kestabilan tindak balas perlanggaran melibatkan kedudukan, halaju dan pecutan nod partikel selepas berlaku perlanggaran Sesama Sendiri (SCD). Uji kaji menunjukkan perlanggaran teknik VcCPBD yang direkod adalah tidak melebihi 5 mili saat pada setiap langkah masa. Selain daripada itu, purata perlanggaran teknik ini juga mencapai nilai lebih kecil sebanyak 1.018% berbanding dengan teknik Halaju Gerakan 1.995% dan teknik Berasaskan Kedudukan Dinamik (PBD) 1.151%. Uji kaji turut menunjukkan teknik yang dicadang dapat menjana peningkatan masa komputasi perlanggaran yang signifikan berbanding dengan pendekatan tradisional

    A Conceptual Model of Lean Manufacturing Dimensions

    AbstractLean manufacturing or also known as lean production has been one of the most popular paradigms in waste elimination in the manufacturing and service industry. Thus, many firms have grabbed the benefits to practice lean manufacturing in order to enhance quality and productivity. However, previous research shows that there are various sets of tools or techniques that had been adopted at a certain degree across firms according to their own understanding of lean manufacturing. The scenario resulted with varying leanness measures in order to measure lean practices. This paper describes a preliminary study in developing a conceptual model to measure leanness in manufacturing industry. Thorough literature survey, books and report analysis contribute to the main preliminary analysis of this study. The most common tools or techniques and their usefulness have been investigated. In this research, a conceptual model for leanness measurement in the manufacturing industry has been developed and designed in two main levels, namely the dimensions and the factors. There are seven main dimensions in measuring leanness in lean manufacturing practices such as manufacturing process and equipment, manufacturing planning and scheduling, visual information system, Supplier relationship, customer relationship, workforce and product development & technology. In addition, the model also shows how lean dimensions in the manufacturing system relate to eight types of wastes

    AbstractThe corporate competitive environment is being liberalized and globalized, therefore the organizations, especially dry food packaging industry, need greater interaction between their stakeholders. One of the problems organizations face to is the segregation of the business functions in an organization. Thus, the business experienced to implement ERP systems for solving this problem. In contrast, the ERP projects have not been effective enough and hence have been unable to achieve all the results envisaged. Therefore, an in depth understanding about the benefits of ERP implementation is needed to ensure the successful system implementation. This study seeks to determine and classify the benefits of ERP system implementation in dry food packaging industry. The methodology of this research comprised of three phases: define the benefits of ERP system implementation from the current literatures, categorize them into strategic, tactical and operational benefits in each business functions in an organization. These ERP benefits are summarized in this paper as a research finding to assist the managers in implementing ERP system successfully

    Computed tomography image reconstruction in 3D voxelspace

    The aim of the study was to investigate the relationship between 2D gray scale pixels and 3D gray scale pixels of image reconstructions in computed tomography (CT). The 3D space image reconstruction from data projection was a challenging and difficult research problem. The image was normally reconstructed from the 2D data from CT data projection. In this descriptive study, a synthetics 3D Shepp-Logan phantom was used to simulate the actual data projection from a CT scanner. Real-time data projection of a human abdomen was also included in this study. Additionally, the Graphical User Interface (GUI) for the application was designed using Matlab Graphical User Interface Development Environment (GUIDE). The application was able to reconstruct 2D and 3D images in their respective spaces successfully.The image reconstruction for CT in 3D space was analyzedalong with 2D space in order to show their relationships and shared properties for the purpose of constructing these images

    An Automated Size Recognition Technique for Acetabular Implant in Total Hip Replacement

    Preoperative templating in Total Hip Replacement (THR) is a method to estimate the optimal size and position of the implant. Today, observational (manual) size recognition techniques are still used to find a suitable implant for the patient. Therefore, a digital and automated technique should be developed so that the implant size recognition process can be effectively implemented. For this purpose, we have introduced the new technique for acetabular implant size recognition in THR preoperative planning based on the diameter of acetabulum size. This technique enables the surgeon to recognise a digital acetabular implant size automatically. Ten randomly selected X-rays of unidentified patients were used to test the accuracy and utility of an automated implant size recognition technique. Based on the testing result, the new technique yielded very close results to those obtained by the observational method in nine studies (90%)

    Lada hitam (Piper nigrum L.) merupakan salah satu tanaman industri yang mempunyai nilai eksport yang tinggi dan menyumbang kepada pertumbuhan ekonomi di Malaysia khususnya di Sarawak. Kebelakangan ini insiden serangan penyakit terhadap tanaman lada hitam telah merencat pengeluaran produktiviti tanaman ini. Situasi semasa yang dihadapi oleh pekebun kecil yang mampu memberi impak terhadap kualiti dan kuantiti hasil tanaman mereka jarang dilaporkan. Kaedah penasihatan yang kurang efisien, ketidakcukupan pengetahuan dan tempoh masa yang panjang bagi capaian sesuatu nasihat dipercayai boleh memberi kesan kepada aspek ekonomi dan pengurusan penyakit. Oleh itu, satu tinjauan awal telah dilaksanakan untuk mengenalpasti situasi semasa yang merangkumi aspek penasihatan dan penyakit tanaman khususnya bagi tanaman lada hitam daripada perspektif pekebun kecil di kawasan luar bandar. Kaedah penyelidikan ini menggunakan borang senarai semak dan telah diedar kepada pekebun kecil yang mengusaha tanaman lada hitam di kawasan Penempatan Semula Asap Koyan, Belaga yang terletak di Bahagian Kapit, Sarawak. Hasil tinjauan awal ini mendapati pekebun kecil yang mengusaha tanaman lada hitam sering menghadapi masalah tanaman berpenyakit dan turut menghadapi isu kaedah penasihatan yang kurang efisien. Kaedah sistem penasihatan baru yang strategik seperti penggunaan teknologi maklumat perlu diperkenalkan supaya pekebun kecil di kawasan luar bandar boleh memperolehi maklumat dengan pantas bagi menyelesaikan masalah apabila menghadapi insiden serangan penyakit tanaman dan membantu mengurangkan risiko kerugian akibat kemusnahan tanaman
